A project by Nina Berman, one of my favourite photographers, documents ‘Mega churches’ – the vast evangelical supermarkets of American paranoia (that’s me saying that, not Ms Berman). Anyhow, I was amused to read a 62 foot high graven image of Christ that ‘adorns’ the Solid Rock Church in Ohio has been struck by lightning and burnt to the ground.
The statue was not in fact made of solid rock, but plastic foam and fibreglass. No one was hurt, but I wonder if they were insured against acts of god? Burn-baby-burn on YouTube.
