It's the last weekend to see my 'News From Nowhere' exhibition – It's free and open on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th October 2021, from 11am to 4pm at Making Space, 48, Aberfeldy St. Poplar, E14 0NU. (Nearest station East India or the 309 bus from Canning Town). Thanks to © Sue Foll for the photos.
“Press and media reporting receive barbed social commentary in News from Nowhere, the first solo exhibition in London by Manchester based artist David Dunnico. All the works are presented as pages of newspapers, which despite declining sales still mould public opinion – this is why their proprietors think mounting losses are a small price to pay. Dunnico presents this work about the news and reporting methods in a bitingly playful and accessible manner.” The exhibition is organised in collaboration with Fitzrovia Noir.
Newspapers are cheap, immediate, disposable, accessible, and have mass appeal – The opposite of how we usually think of art. Exhibitionism is a series of photos that takes a sardonic look at art galleries. They were printed on newsprint and hung in a gallery that was closed due to the pandemic. A selection can be seen in this exhibition and in a limited edition 'zine – available to buy at the exhibition, or from my website for £8.
Limited edition poster set – There are just 10 of these 'Austerity is Class War' posters available. The poster is broadsheet size (50x35cm) printed on 55gsm newsprint, it comes in a stiff card envelope, complete with 2 postcards, a sticker, printed explanatory leaflet and a photograph of the 9 piece Austerity installation. You can buy it from the gallery for £12, or direct from me for £12 plus P&P – If you want one, please message me and I will arrange payment and shipping.
Also included in the show are four tabloid newspapers – None are for sale, but you can download free pdfs of them below…
