There’s almost a genre in photography for taking photographs that don’t show something to say something about a subject. Think of Simon Norfolk’s pictures of battlefields taken after the battle, or Edmund Clarke’s still lifes of prison cells. Anyway ‘celebrities’ are a nasty blot on the world, so you can imagine how delighted I am to come across a new book and tumblr site ‘The Slow Paparazzo’ by by Antoine Wilson. Wilson joins the thongs of snappers snapping celebrities doing their shopping, eating, walking etc. but waits until the celebrity has gone to take his picture. The result is a nice comment on the chimera of fame and on photography’s concern with ‘the decisive moment’.
So can you guess who this is a picture of?
