Loitering with intent

The Access and Surveillance walk for RedEye went well. It rained a lot – but being hardy documentary types, we pressed on and were rewarded with a bit of sun and some good photos including this one by Lynda Haney, which was much better than anything I took. The placards were in St. Peter’s Square and were part of an arts project. The Police Officer had obviously not been told, so spent a while wondering if he should arrest something and wishing he’d walked the other way. He was a good sport though when he realised he had become a good photo opportunity.

Prizes were awarded for spotting the first security guard, guessing the number of CCTV cameras (won by Lynda) and taking the best photo of a copper and no one got arrested. We bumped into my Foto friend Rolo, who was loitering with intent to photograph around Spinningfields and a group led by Manchester Photography Blogger Mark Page, who’s new Alternative Camera Club venture with the Whitworth Art Gallery deserves a mention. Here’s a flickr group for the walk and you can follow our route on the Google Map here. Missed the news there was to be a photo flashmob outside the Arndale Centre the very next day which would have been a nice bit of agit prop.
