An Englishman’s home is his secure defensible bunker. Visitors to my Ministry of Fear web site will know that security that makes you feel insecure, is a favourite subject of mine. This citizen has gone for a three-pronged defence: CCTV/webcam, dogs/security patrols and if all that fails; divine protection from the Virgin Mary/Angels. The Office for National Statistics tells us:
A quarter of householders who had improved their home security said that they had done so as part of overall improvements to their house. Smaller proportions said they had improved security as a result of their own, or a friend’s or neighbour’s house being burgled.
