COVER DESIGN OF 1984

George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four is undoubtedly one of the most important books ever published. It changed the world, changed the language and has shown a remarkable prescience, from the start of the Cold War (a phrase first coined by Orwell) and into the 21st Century with rise of fake news and AI – all in 300 pages. This is how designers wrapped up those pages and illustrated Orwell’s ideas with interesting, striking and occasionally bizarre examples of cover art.

The book features dozens of examples from the first edition of 1949 up until the present day – some brilliant, others bizarre, many of them are from my own collection, which I exhibited at Salford Art Gallery as ‘1984 Looks Like This’.

10x8 inch, 60 pages, softback cover, perfect bound and full colour. It’s £12 including UK postage and comes with a limited edition metal badge.
